STAGE.3 ASSESSMENT AND MODIFICATION OF 'CURRENT' MANAGEMENT KEY ITEMS

Some 'Current' Management items can be retained, others such as Production Scheduling and Market Forecasting generally have to be up graded. For example for a batch manufacturing company it is important to have a minimum fixed production schedule of at least one week. This allows creative time for employees to carry out their part of continuous improvement. If a Just-in-time process is present this will cope with up to about 15% changes if a last minute item is urgently required by a customer during any week which is not on the schedule.

Stage.2 measures will also have indicated whether current management structures such as the structure of teams are good enough (a specific measuring method exists for this to be used if the required team structures are not immediately obvious).

It may also be necessary to measure the knowledge levels of members of the senior management team so that specific training can be given, a non-threatening measure exists for this! In medium to large companies at least 2 members of the senior management team need to exercise largely leadership skills on a day to day basis during and after the change-over to EV Management, a specific set of measures exists for identifying the members of the senior management team for this purpose if required.

Most companies now have some form of external strategy in place but in most cases it has been found that this is not specific enough for EV and has to be upgraded so that it is precise and clearly understood by each member of the senior management team. The resultant EV External Drive Strategy is one of the 2 strategies required for EV Management and very clearly defines the business the company is in, which in turn defines the range of products and services to be supplied, and the type of customers being served and their geographic location.
Very few companies have the second strategy in place for continuous improvement of the company's operations.
